A note from our Board President

Dear Water for South Sudan community,

I am writing on behalf of the Water for South Sudan (WFSS) Board of Directors and staff to share news about our United States leadership. Lynn Malooly, our first U.S. employee and longtime Executive Director, will be stepping down in June to begin what she expects to be a very active retirement.

Lynn has played a critical role in our organization’s growth and success over her 15-year tenure. We are deeply thankful for her leadership and grateful for the team of extremely talented individuals she built to support our programs and the people of South Sudan.

“Leading Water for South Sudan has been the privilege of a lifetime. I am profoundly grateful to our visionary founder Salva Dut, dedicated staff in the U.S. and South Sudan, the WFSS Board, and countless supporters around the world who made it possible to transform hundreds of thousands of lives through access to clean water,” says Lynn.

Lynn’s leadership allowed us to drill over 600 wells, providing access to clean water to more than half a million people every day! To accomplish this, she increased our donor base to every U.S. state and 77 other countries.

Her leadership has not stopped with just wells. Lynn has been critical to expanding WFSS’s other programs that include providing hygiene training, rehabilitating wells, constructing latrines, and building solar-powered water storage systems. Most recently she helped with the formation of the Water Institute that provides critically needed water quality knowledge and skills to South Sudanese trainees. It is because of this work that WFSS can say we are truly a leader of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) services in the world’s newest country.

Lynn’s last day as Executive Director is June 30th, 2025. The Board is overseeing a detailed transition plan and we look forward to continued collaboration with the WFSS community as we embark on our next stage of leadership. We wish Lynn and her family nothing but the very best.

Sincerely,
Thomas McCarthy
President
