Our Work & The SDGs: Part 3

We are committed to building resilient communities and fostering partnerships for sustainable development. Continue reading to learn more about how we support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 11, 13, and 17 through our innovative water and sanitation initiatives.

Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities

A key component of our mission is sustainability. Our locally hired, 100% South Sudanese team leads all of our water, sanitation, and hygiene programs in the rural communities we serve. They receive training and fair wages, supporting stability within communities and the country at large. Additionally, speaking the languages and understanding the customs of the communities we work in means our projects are long-lasting and continue to provide communities in need with invaluable and sustainable WASH programs to create healthier and prosperous communities.

Goal 13: Climate Action

According to the World Bank, South Sudan was ranked the world’s most vulnerable country to climate change in 2022. This directly impacts community members like Mary, who live in Piantok, a county in South Sudan that has long faced water scarcity and sanitation issues. When our team installed a solar-powered Water Storage & Distribution System in her village, she shared, “We can’t think of refrigerator water because this water is purified, too.”

Since its implementation, her community now has access to clean, purified water, eliminating the need to drink from boreholes or open wells. The proximity of clean water has not only improved their health but also allowed them to cultivate vegetable farms, enhancing food security. Additionally, having water nearby supports their daily lives and eliminates the long distances previously required to fetch water.

Goal 17: Partnership for the Goals

Lastly, but most importantly, progress towards these SDGs is only successful if we continue to work together.

We believe every action – big or small – mobilizes significant, long-lasting change. When you support our efforts, you’re not just pushing one goal forward — SDG 6, clean and safe water for all — you’re advancing ten other sustainable goals simultaneously. Access to clean, safe water ultimately accelerates progress on these goals.

We’re proud to join the global effort for a more equitable and sustainable future, and our determination is unwavering: We won’t stop until everyone in South Sudan has access to the clean and safe water they deserve. Let’s keep going.
