Tabitha’s Story

Tabitha Aluak Mading, a mother of five from Tonj South County in South Sudan, overcame significant challenges, including economic struggles and lack of access to safe water. Her life changed when WFSS installed a newly drilled well near her home as a result of the Women Empowerment Center.

Inspired by the women’s group training on backyard vegetable gardening provided by WFSS, Tabitha took the initiative to establish her own garden at home, even before the group's collective garden at the women's center was set up. She transformed her limited resources into a thriving kitchen garden using water from the newly drilled nearby well for irrigation.

Faced with financial difficulties, Tabitha innovatively collected wild jute mallow seeds for planting. Her efforts paid off, and her garden flourished. She expects a good harvest, which she plans to sell to improve the lives of her children and herself.

Tabitha’s story highlights resilience and resourcefulness, turning challenges into opportunities for a brighter future.

Your support makes this possible for women (and communities!) in South Sudan, just like Tabitha’s. Thank you for being a part of our global community.
