Women’s Empowerment Project update
Project Overview
The Women’s Empowerment Project, funded by an anonymous foundation and implemented by the Water for South Sudan Foundation in March, marks a significant milestone in addressing women’s needs in the Udhum, Aweil West County community.
Our latest accomplishments:
The recruitment of two female hygiene promoters is complete. The hygiene promoters will lead hygiene awareness and campaign sessions to promote health and sanitation practices within the community, emphasizing the importance of clean water, proper sanitation, and personal hygiene.
Construction of a Women’s Center and latrine. Serving as the hub for training, the Women’s Center will allow for skill development and community gatherings, while the latrine promotes safe sanitation and hygiene practices.
Construction of a Sustainability Room, generator shelter, and security fencing. The sustainability room will protect the electronics that power the system and the generator shelter will protect the generator from South Sudan’s harsh elements. Potential damage will be prevented by the security fence, ensuring the protection of this unique setup.
Supplies shipped for the elevated Water Storage system to the field for constructing the water storage tank and supply lines. The team will then connect the system to the solar panels and generator set to pump the water.
Training of water storage system operators will be completed once the water storage system supply lines are connected to the solar and generator power.
Once the water storage system and supply lines are in place, training will be conducted for the Water User Committee members.
