Board Position Available!

Mission: Deliver sustainable quality-of-life services to and with the people of South Sudan by efficiently providing access to clean, safe, water, and improving hygiene and sanitation practices in areas of great need.

Position Qualifications: The Board Treasurer (“Treasurer”) should possess a financial background, ideally be experienced with accounting, auditing, or taxation, and have the ability to assist the Board of Directors (Board) and staff with budgeting, auditing, and regular financial transactions of the organization.

Term and Election: The Treasurer shall be elected by the Board by plurality vote for two (2) year terms at either the June or such other meeting as determined by the Board. An individual may serve as Treasurer for no more than three (3) consecutive full two (2) year terms, after which they must not serve as an Elected Officer for a minimum of one (1) year before being eligible for re-election as an Elected Officer.

Duties and Functions:

The Treasurer’s responsibilities include:

  • Working with the Executive Director and Budget Committee to create the annual budget;

  • Supporting WFSS staff with QuickBooks and adhering to general business practices;

  • Supporting staff, as needed, in reviewing and reconciling South Sudan finances and bookkeeping;

  • Reviewing payroll, credit card statements, and monthly bank reconciliations;

  • Approving purchase orders in accordance with established spending policy;

  • Attending Board and Committee meetings to provide the Treasurer’s Report and contribute finance and budgetary perspectives as needed;

  • Serving as backup to the Executive Director for U.S. payroll processing, check signing, and wire transfer authorizations;

  • Monitoring the investment of the organization’s assets in investment and banking accounts to ensure compliance with established investment policies and maximize investment returns and income opportunities;

  • Reviewing and signing various financial and administrative applications and reports such as state registrations where fundraising is conducted;

  • Providing required data and reviewing and signing tax returns prepared by CPA firm;

  • Working with the Audit Committee and CPA firm to facilitate the external audit; and

  • Lead or assist in reviewing and hiring vendors related to the financial operations of the organization.

Assistant Treasurer:

The Treasurer, with the organization’s approval, can recommend the appointment of an Assistant Treasurer to aid in the completion of these responsibilities. Any such Assistant Treasurer is not an Officer of the Board, though they may be elected as a member of the Board. The appointment of an Assistant Treasurer does not release the Treasurer from their Officer duties and fiduciary responsibilities.
