Partnership Projects Kick Off the Operating Season

We are proud to kick off our operating season with partnerships with UNICEF and Norwegian Church Aid (NCA) to focus on positively impacting water quality, access to clean drinking water, and hygiene activities in South Sudan. Continue reading to learn more!

UNICEF Project

Our partnership project with UNICEF kicked off in September in Twic County, Warrap State, South Sudan, and will be completed in February 2024. It focuses on water quality, access to clean water, and hygiene activities. Here is a breakdown of the project:

Focus Areas:

  • Water Quality & Access to Clean Water 

    • Rehabilitation: upgrade 10 wells (3 have been completed as of December 13)

    • Upgrade existing borehole to water yard (water storage and distribution)

      • Added a solar-powered pump and installed water tower and pipes

      • 600 beneficiaries served so far

    • Pump mechanic training: 20 people trained to support the maintenance of rehabilitated well sites

    • Water Quality testing is being completed to ensure water is safe for human consumption. The water samples are being sent to government laboratories for testing.

  • Hygiene Activities

    • Water User Committee Training (hygiene education and community use of water sources): 77 people trained to support hygiene awareness at well rehab and water storage and distribution sites

    • Rehabilitation of latrine

    • New latrine constructed

    • Handwashing station for both latrine sites

    • Hygiene promotion at nutrition facilities: promotional messages on how to maintain latrines and the importance of handwashing

      • 2,000 beneficiaries impacted

    • WASH and non-food items distributed to nutrition facilities

      • WFSS picked up household sets from the UNICEF facility containing buckets, bar soaps, and water purifiers.

      • 685 households impacted (2,000 beneficiaries)

Norwegian Church Aid Project

Our partnership project with NCA kicked off on November 1 in Renk, Upper Nile State, South Sudan, and is due to be completed by January 31, 2024. It focuses on the rehabilitation of non-functional wells and the construction of latrines. Here is a breakdown of the project:

  • Rehab 20 wells 

  • Construct latrines at Renk Hospital

    • Completed - The WFSS Technical Team officially handed over the latrine to Renk Hospital Management on December 13.

    • These latrines will provide safe and sustainable sanitation services to patients and staff of the hospital.
