Why We IGC: Cabot Middle School South
Each month leading up to IGC 2024, we are highlighting the educators and schools that have been instrumental in inspiring and motivating their students to support clean water projects in South Sudan. Next up is Cabot Middle School South (CMSS) and Meaghan Sitzmann!
This year will be their second year of participating in the Iron Giraffe Challenge. Last year, CMSS won third place and received a video call from Linda Sue Park.
Meaghan shared, “In our global awareness unit, we do a book study of A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park. It is through that book study that we learned about Salva and his efforts to bring water to South Sudan and the IGC.”
“My students and I wanted to do our part to help Water for Sudan bring clean drinking water to the people of Sudan. By participating in IGC, we felt proud that we were able to help this amazing cause. I'm so proud of this company, the challenge, and my kids! Changing the world!”
Meaghan continued, “My students came to school early and gave up their lunch and recess time to sell popcorn and other goodies to other students at our school. They also created a fundraiser in which students were able to guess how many Skittles were in a jar. We sold "guesses" for fifty cents. Students were able to guess as many times as they wanted for .50 a guess! The winner got the whole jar of Skittles!”
We are so inspired by Meaghan and the entire CMSS school family. Thank you and your students for sharing your time, passion, creativity, and dedication to making a difference in South Sudan.
