Why We IGC: Pine Lake Preparatory Middle School

Each month leading up to IGC 2024, we highlight the educators and schools that have been instrumental in inspiring and motivating their students to support clean water projects in South Sudan. Our final feature is a long-time supporter, Pine Lake Preparatory Middle School (Pine Lake Prep)!

Pine Lake Prep has participated in the Iron Giraffe Challenge since the 2015-2016 school year and is a three-time IGC Winner! Additionally, they have raised over $14,600. Here is what retired 7th grade ELA teacher Natalie Goodwin has to say about Pine Lake Prep’s involvement in IGC and why this initiative is impactful.

How did you hear about IGC?

“Stumbled upon the website years ago and discovered the IGC.”

What motivated you and your students to participate in this initiative?

“Reading the novel by Linda Sue Park, they were very inspired!”

Please share any notable fundraising methods your school utilized during IGC.

“Our most successful fundraiser was with Krispy Kreme doughnuts. They have a great fundraising platform! The students manned stations and sold the doughnuts by single or by the dozen. They helped clean up and count the money, and they felt very empowered!”

Please share how IGC impacted you and your students.

“Such a good cause -they felt good about helping others!”

The entire Pine Lake Prep school family inspires us! Thank you and your students for sharing your time, passion, creativity, and dedication to making a difference in South Sudan.

Join schools like Pine Lake Prep and register for the Iron Giraffe Challenge by April 12 to have fun while making a local and global impact.
